Tags are an extremely powerful categorization tool for the web.  They allow you to relate multiple articles to each other without requiring them to be in their own unique folder.  By tagging an article, you can ensure that your site viewers can easily get to articles with similar content or, get a better understanding of the important items in the article.  Sitemason will even generate a tag cloud for you based on the most popularly used tags.

In the Tag tab you can manage your tags for a specific article; selecting tags used elsewhere in other articles, or creating new ones.

Additionally, you can manage tags for the entire tool using the powerful Tag Manager in the menu (Tools->Tag Manager).  Here you can add, edit, merge, delete and even split tags or tag sets.  It's a wonderful resource for managing large lists of tags and keeping an eye on duplicate, and merging similar tags.

The Tag Manager also includes a tag Groups manager which gives an additional layer of categorization to your tags.  By grouping tags into specified Groups, you can create complex applications like directories or give your blog tag-based navigation.
