As you are probably aware, there has been a ton of news/chatter/commentary about the "Heartbleed Bug" lately. While it is a very serious security issue, a very important fact to keep in mind (and one that many articles seem to have glossed over entirely) is that this bug does not affect all servers and, in fact, only affects a portion of them. You can read all about the bug if you're interested, but here are the facts-at-a-glance as they pertain to Sitemason customers:
- Sitemason's servers are not affected by the Heartbleed Bug and never were.
- A small subset of customers (who run dedicated secure certificates via AWS Elastic Load Balancers) could have been indirectly affected, though their exposure was mitigated before the bug became publicized As a measure of extreme caution, we have re-issued the secure certificates for those customers. Each customer affected by this has been notified (the resolution requires action by the customer) and the vast majority have already addressed the issue.
- You have nothing to worry about with regard to your Sitemason services (that's not to say that any other services that you use are not affected).
And that's it! Bottom line: if you were not notified by us, then you have nothing to worry about. And, for those who were notified, just follow the instructions in our email and all will be well.
